Saint Laurent FW19 Delivers Brazen Sex Appeal
From sheer fabrics and animal prints to a blacklight runway, the new Saint Laurent collection was full of surprises.
Even at a post-Hedi Slimane Saint Laurent show, one can still expect the same level of effortless cool that the fashion house continues to churn out season after season. However, for FW19, creative director Anthony Vaccarello cranked it up a notch, delivering brazen sex appeal in the form of intentional nip slips, sheer bodysuits, and party dresses that have come to define the brand. The collection strays from the rock n’ roll vibe that the brand embodied in their spring collection, turning towards a more polished, structured, and sophisticated look, but with an edgy and youthful twist that rings true to the brand’s key audience.
This collection was made for the night, from the metallic threading and gold accents peppered throughout to the abundance of luxurious textures — fur, velvet, leather, vinyl, and so on. Structured sequined suit jackets and bombers provided a level of easy sophistication, while cheetah and zebra animal prints nodded to the 80s trends Saint Laurent explored in their FW18 collection. In true Saint Laurent fashion, there was, of course, plenty of black. However, for the second half of the collection, the collection dove into an element that is uncharted and surprising for the brand — the use of a blacklight which brought neon creations to life. This collection is truly party-ready.
