Jim Jarmusch (director of The Dead Don’t Die and Only Lovers Left Alive) is premiering his newest film in competition at the 2025 Venice Film Festival. Titled Father Mother Sister Brother, the film is the fourth feature from Saint Laurent Production.

After appearances at Cannes in recent years (with Strange Way of Life and Emilia Perez), Father Mother Sister Brothermarks the house’s first time at Venice. The story is structured as a triptych, exploring complex family relationships across three interwoven chapters.

The cast is a who’s who of indie and mainstream: Tom Waits, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Charlotte Rampling, Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Sarah Greene, Indya Moore, Luka Sabbat, and Françoise Lebrun. With the film rooted in character studies, it’s fitting to have such a well-rounded cast.

Jarmusch describes the film as a kind of “anti-action film,” one where silences speak and gestures are more meaningful than words. Shot by Frederick Elmes and Yorick Le Saux, and edited by longtime collaborator Afonso Gonçalves, it’s a work of tonal clarity—like three floral arrangements made by hand, each carefully composed and left open to inspection.

With Father Mother Sister Brother, Saint Laurent Productions continues to expand the vocabulary of what a fashion house can be—not just a purveyor of image and clothing, but a curator of story. Under Anthony Vaccarello, the line between cinema and style blurs further—not for spectacle, but, like fashion, for storytelling.
