Salvatore Ferragamo Creates a ‘Future Positive’ Winter 2021 Collection

Unbound by the perspectives of linear time, the collection is an avant-garde vision of the future, a celebration of visionary pioneering.

Salvatore Ferragamo’s Winter 2021 show is made for the future.

The thrill of fashion takes a sci-fi cue in the digital launch, immersed in various futuristic settings; the city skyline of a cosmopolitan metropolis, the avant-garde tunnel of an ultra-modern hub, meeting points of a collection embedded in pioneering garments, a visionary experience accompanied by funky, spacey beats.

Ferragamo brings a “future positive” perspective to fashion week, one in which tailoring is blended across space and time—built and rebuilt, sequences and resequenced, the Winter 2021 collection draws its inspiration from militaria, from motorcycles, from athletics, from scuba, from the world beyond all of this and an imagination unbound by a single perspective.

“For this ‘future positive’ collection, I imagined the standard contours of today’s uniforms as fossilized remnants of a long-forgotten past, freed of all associations of class, color or creed,” said Creative Director Paul Andrew.

Restraints in the design are unheard of in this collection—it is a new world, one in which the joyous possibilities of design and tailoring are yet to be bound, a place in which the exploration of Ferragamo is still underway.

Mohair knits coexist with casual tailoring and utilitarian parkas, just as abstract camouflage print coexists with draped jersey dresses and chainmail statement looks, all spawned in a color palette of bright, vivid color—pale lilac, lime green, baby pink, deep blue, electric orange—against a neutral, unifying white base.

The utopian city Ferragamo brings us to, far off in the future, is tangible by the looks worn there, created for the bold and progressive of today. Ferragamo’s space-age uniform is sleek and sharp, constructed of well-tailored pieces and form-fitting silhouettes.

Standout pieces of the collection include a periwinkle jumpsuit with tiers of pockets, the space explorer on the move; a simple yet stunning high-neck lavender dress balanced by a slit up the leg, made to be moved in; a black knit dress covered in white mohair tassels; and an all-too futuristic chainmail gown, entirely chrome, form-fitting and semi-extraterrestrial with a neck cut beneath the sternum.

The collection is rounded out by space explorer accessories, a glimpse of Ferragamo’s vision of the future. Biker boots and rubberized nappa clogs are sleek reimaginings of Ferragamo’s signature F-heel, now adorned with rhinestones. The Nano-Trifolio bag appears revolumed, while the deconstructed Studio bag adheres to travel protocol future centuries far-off.
