V93 cover star Sam Smith pulled a bit of a disappearing act: after winning the world over with his angelic voice and lovelorn melodies on his chart-topping debut album In the Lonely Hour in 2014, touring it across the globe, and then winning an Oscar for his James Bond theme song in 2016, the singer went almost entirely silent for over a year. That all changed last week when he shared his highly-anticipated comeback single, "Too Good at Goodbyes"—a somber, gutting breakup ballad—and its accompanying music video, released today.

Directed by Luke Monaghan, the video follows Smith as a part of one couple among many in the throes of a lovers' goodbye, with intermittent shots of him singing in a sparse room, a dimly lit street, and a sun-kissed field. The couples pictured are expectantly diverse in both race and sexuality, with Smith himself held in a lonely embrace with a male partner. As the narrative progresses, so do the breakups, ending in more than one teary goodbye. All in all, it's a fitting clip for the track.
