Who said that sportswear, specifically footwear, can’t be glamorous? Forget your old running shoes – New York-based fashion brand Sandy Liang and heritage footwear brand Salomon have partnered up to take your footwear to the next level. This exclusive capsule collection marks Salomon’s first female-led partnership and features unique styles that will infuse your running track with Sandy Liang’s nostalgic elements and colorways. It will feel like walking on clouds.

“Growing up in the ’90s, I loved wearing sneakers,” Liang explained. “I incorporated this into my design process, tapping into nostalgic colorways and details like the anime-inspired flower decal seen throughout the capsule.” 

First seen together on the runway of the New York Fashion Week, when Salomon footwear was styled with Sandy Liang’s Spring/Summer 2021 collections, the two collaborate towards the same goal: broadening their audience’s experience, and pushing the boundaries of style and performance. “We are thrilled to be working alongside Sandy Liang to bring new women’s offerings into market and to continue exploring this category,” said Salomon’s Marketing Manager, Bryan Diaz, concluding “Salomon was drawn to Sandy’s ability to innovate new designs and push boundaries while maintaining the brand’s core DNA.”

The two brands were able to successfully blend Sandy Liang’s ultra ballet-core and feminine essence with Salomon’s earthy feels for an unprecedented synergy in the footwear realm. The truth is that they had always been on each other’s dream lists. “Working with Salomon has always been a dream of mine, we are both brands that are inspired by our own histories,” Liang revealed, adding “There is a sportiness to Salomon that resonates with me and fits perfectly with my ready-to-wear designs.” 

The collaboration presents two exclusive pieces: the Salomon RX Moc 3.0 and the XT-6 Expanse. The first style features a sheer mesh upper to diversify the wearability and enhance breathability, an oversized EVA midsole for a soft ride, and zero seams to limit friction. The second one, instead, features a Cradle Pink/ Jolly Green/ Black colorway and a ’90s anime flower print decal. However, the great achievement is that both shoes embrace Sandy Liang’s stylish design without sacrificing Salomon’s comfortability and technicality. “We are not trend-driven and are committed to making great products, figuring out who we are, and designing for the moment we are in,” Liang said. 

The capsule will be available on April 28 for exclusive purchase at the Sandy Liang NYC location and on its official website. It will launch globally on May 5th, 2023 at Salomon select retailers and on its official website.
