Sant Ambroeus Celebrates its 90th Anniversary During Frieze New York

The Milanese Italian restaurant unveiled a collaboration with artist Tess Ramirez

New York fixture Sant Ambroeus celebrated its 90th Anniversary last week in Soho. The Milanese restaurant hosted a cocktail party for a lucky group of the city’s creatives and tastemakers.

The event coincided with Frieze New York, an annual contemporary art fair that ran from May 13 to May 17 at The Shed. Last month, Sant Ambroeus also hosted a dinner during Salone del Mobile in Milan, which kicked off “a year-long program of partnerships and cultural activations that brings Sant Ambroeus’ history, community, and Milanese spirit to life,” the restaurant said in a statement.

J.Crew Creative Director Olympia Gayot, illustrator Angelica Hicks, writer Adam Eli, digital strategist Jia Jia Fei, and others gathered at Sant Ambroeus’ Soho location. A collaborative piece with artist Tess Ramirez was unveiled, reimagining the restaurant’s signature plate wall.

The plates were decorated with special moments in Sant Ambroeus’ history, from its iconic dishes to its West Village and Southampton locations. Illustrations included the popular princess cake, paninetti, and coffee cup.

Since its 1936 founding on Milan’s Corso Matteotti, the restaurant has been intertwined with the art world. “Once a cultural hub where intellectuals, artists and the city’s elegant set gathered, the address came to symbolize the best of Milanese hospitality: understated sophistication, meticulous attention to detail and an enduring sense of grace,” the restaurant said in a statement.
