Schiaparelli Escapes To An Ethereal World In SS22 Haute Couture Collection
Grandiose meets classic in this collection inspired by the empyreal and designed to transcend the traditions of couture
As the opening show of Couture Week in Paris, Schiaparelli ushered in a new age of artistic conception with their Spring-Summer 2022 Haute Couture collection, ‘An Age Of Discipline.’ Referencing the current state of uncertainty and loss felt throughout the world, Artistic Director Daniel Roseberry answers the question, “What does surrealism mean when reality itself has been redefined?” With a nod towards the elemental, only black, white, and gold were used in the creation of this line, a bold display of clean silhouettes with grandiose accents. An air if mythical escapism is felt; a utopian sense of glamour and goddess. Garments were created under the idea of defying gravity—sharp tailoring paired with oversized, aerodynamic accents, from bustiers and headpieces to collars and sleeves. A reinvention of Schiaparelli gold—a neutral, authentic shade specifically formulated for the maison with pieces of 24k gold leaf—is seen engineered and embroidered with vintage cabochons and crystals sourced from the 1930’s. Pieces are created in collaboration with artisans, with intimate attention to detail shown in the hammered, polished, and twisted sculptures that so effortlessly complements the sleek garments. Nipped waists, duckbill-backed jackets, shorts trimmed in ecru silk faille, satin embroidered tailcoats, and a crystal cocktail dress are all found in this 23-piece collection, an impressive display of harmonious innovation that creates transcends the wearer into an empyreal reality.
