Schiaparelli Presents “Dancer in the Dark”

Schiaparelli’s SS26 Ready-to-Wear collection channels a surreal, liberating spirit through sculptural structure

Described by Yves Saint Laurent as “a comet lighting up the night sky in Paris, intent on domination,” Elsa Schiaparelli was known for her fantastical, avant-garde design approach. Daniel Roseberry’s Spring-Summer Ready-to-Wear collection brings surreal elements to everyday structures, from Dali’s melting clock motifs to deceptively simple slip-on gowns. Titled “Dancer in the Dark,” the collection contrasts sharp-shouldered silhouettes with trompe l’oeil knitwear.

“Dancing in the Dark” evokes a private moment of liberation; movement that is playful, sensual, and uninhibited when unseen. Gold hardware punctuates the stark black and whites, appearing like jewelry built into the garments themselves. Fantastical elements like hardware padlocks and liquid black gowns fall in elongated drapes down the body.

Scarlet lips and bright reds create the illusion of paintings brought to life, while neutral palettes of black and ivory ensures everyday wearability. Schiaparelli’s legacy of fantasy is maintained through its signature striking, controlled form.
