Seven Scents to Revamp Working from Home
A shortlist of essentials.
As the plight of working from home turns into some reliably long, biting months of winter, we’ve put together a seven-count roster of utterly transportive scents to trick the olfactories into being anywhere but here.
Burning sticks that reach the heady heights of Provence and return in a warm, balmy miasma of lavender. Astute, yet simultaneously understated in a blend of white coriander and Moroccan rosemary – shedding whiffs of worlds over in potent, tender spoors.
Resurrecting those unthought memories of younger days, +33+ plays deft notes of citrus and spice, silently measuring up brand ethos with its aromatic, seductive mystery. Densely layered, but never assaulting, the candle-cum-object d’art is hand made in France, hardcore and hypercool in a faultless, crystal holder.
Tom Ford’s riff on the aromatic Italian Riviera is one enjoyed in a conference of mediums – ranging body scrub to bath bar. Adding frisson to the reliable citrus motifs of the Oceanside, Ford reimagines his scent with hints of floral and an underscoring amber – a starkly irresistible contrast.
Whitney Bromberg Hawkings, the ne plus ultra of florals, expands her DTC operations to immortalize the ever-fleeting scents of freshly cut stems. In rich chocolate flacons and glassware, wisps of white musk and amber marry in indulgently supple tropes – capturing the passing moments of ripe and full Lily of the Valley flowers.
Maison Francis Kurkdjian Paris Baccarat Rouge 540
In a cachet of jasmine, saffron, cedar wood, and ambergris, Baccarat Rouge 540 emerges as a lyrical play for sophistication and cosmopolitan. Layered in gentle notes of floral and amber, effete foils give explicit meaning to “signature scent” – whether that be as hair mist, body oil, or scented candle.
The playful novelty and campy folksiness tacit to Jonathan Anderson’s portfolio tracks seamlessly with his latest installments of plant-based home scents. Touching on the aromatic archives of Anderson himself, Loewe’s Ivy is rendered as home fragrances, rattan diffusers, solid wax candleholders, and candles set in ribbed terracotta pots – all leaving space for the pulpy, lush aromatics of an Ivy evergreen to perfume uninterrupted.
Words nearly belie the smoky, inebriating aromas of Apotheke’s Hinoki Lavender Reed incense. Notes of fig, lotus, and sea dance the tropes of ozone and Cedarwood. Curated in line with Apotheke’s unique alcohol-free fragrance oils, the scent becomes an arcane ode to gentle, earthy winds.
