Sevillian Culture and Craft is Highlighted for Dior’s Cruise 2023 Campaign

Dior releases campaign including “La Capitana” short film, and ode to the flamenco dancing of Seville

Dior has revealed the campaign for their Cruise 2023 Cruise Collection, with a range of visuals that encapsulate creative director Maria Grazi Chiuri’s inspiration from Seville and the legendary flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya — nicknamed La Capitana. The collection includes traditional crafts, created in an Andalusian air. Silhouettes blur the lines between masculinity and femininity, with boleros and capes serving as an ode to Spanish craftsmanship and the spirit of Seville.

The campaign includes a video directed by Fabien Baron entitled “La Capitana,” which highlights flamenco dancer Bélen López, with a soundtrack created by Alberto Iglesias. The short acts as an homage to Spanish tradition of flamenco, showing off elegant flowing dresses alongside sharp tailoring. In the haze of golden hour, López’s dancing exhibits both the strength and dignity of Sevillian culture and the figure of La Capitana, of which Chiuri leaned into for the Cruise 23 collection.

The imagery for the campaign was created by photographer Laura Sciacovelli, captured in the stunning palaces of Seville. Chiuri’s now classic Dior silhouettes have been infused with the spirit of the city, including jackets and chaps that have been crafted with an equestrian flair.

The fashion house has updated staple accessories such as the Saddle and Lady Dior bags, with embellishments that serve as an ode to the traditional craft of Southern Spain. The setting of the photos displays the magnificently rich history that lies within Seville, a city that is known for its impressive and storied architecture, art, and dance.
