SG Lewis Drops New Track Ahead Of Upcoming Album
“‘times’ is an ode to the present moment.”
“Feed The Fire” is a thumping disco track that describes the vague feeling of ecstasy sought after in many a pop song before it. Sex, dancing, drugs? It’s not really clear which of the many vices these pop stars are chasing, and perhaps that’s the point. “Your sweat is dripping getting under my skin/ I got you open won’t you pull me in (pull me in),” sings collaborator Lucky Daye. “You pour it on me slipping into desire/ Whatever happens, feed the fire.”
SG Lewis spoke about the new single, saying, “‘Feed The Fire’ is the kind of song I’ve wanted to make for a long time and one of my favorites on the album. Lucky’s album ‘Painted’ is in constant rotation for me and I’d always wanted to hear what he would sound like on something club tempo. The result is better than I ever could have hoped for.”
This new single comes ahead of Lewis’ new album times, set to release Feb. 19 of next year. It’s a fair ways off, but that only gives the singer and producer more time to promote his many, highly successful collaborations. Earlier this year, he saw his other tracks “Impact” with Robyn and Channel Tres and “Chemicals” take off, particularly on UK radio, which has afforded him numerous accolades.
times is surely set to receive the same treatment and will be Lewis’ first collection of music following his three-chapter EP Dusk, Dark, Dawn.
“‘times’ is an ode to the present moment. 2020 has shown us that the experiences we took for granted in the past are never promised tomorrow, and that the opportunity to dance together may not always be there again,” said Lewis. “After reading about 70’s New York and the birth of Disco, I became infatuated with the euphoria and escapism that the music from that period created, and the safe spaces the clubs at the time provided for people to express themselves. I aimed to create a world musically that captured those same feelings, and to imagine the music that would be playing in those rooms if they were to exist today.”
Though he looks to the past for inspiration, it is the distinctively modern production that has taken this artist so far. Keep an eye out for his new work these next few months, and listen to “Feed The Fire” below.
