“For most artists, success can be measured by streams and album sales. But for me, it’s about being able to fulfill my vision and have it resonate with people all around the world…that’s what makes it all worthwhile. These past few months have been a whirlwind due to the fact that I haven’t been in the spotlight for nearly 7 years. It has taken some adjusting to get used to being in the public eye again. But it feels good to return with my album Multitude, and it feels good to have feedback on my latest work after spending years creating it in private.”– PAUL VAN HAVER (STROMAE)
“When I finished working on the album, I spent a lot of time thinking of an appropriate title. I originally wanted to call it Folklore but Taylor Swift released her album with that title before me. So, I had to change my plans. It was my brother and creative director, Luc, who pointed out to me, that in my lyrics, I like to put myself in the shoes of different characters. That’s where the idea for the title Multitude came from. It represents both the multitude of characters present in this album, but also the multitude of influences since I was inspired by traditional and folk music from all over the world. Most importantly it speaks to the multitude of facets that a single human being can have, we are all multi-dimensional. We all have layers that are just waiting to be pulled back.” – PAUL VAN HAVER (STROMAE)
‘‘THE STORYTELLING BEHIND THE SHOOT IS ONE ABOUT PLAYFUL COLORS AND GRAPHIC SHAPES, CREATING A SURREAL MOMENT WHERE THE INNER CHILD TAKES OVER. WE FIND ‘MY LITTLE PONY’ RAINBOW CLOUDS, MEMPHIS-STYLE GRAPHICS, AND THE DARK SIDE OF A CLOWN.’’—PETER PHILIPS
“I WAS VERY IMPRESSED BY THE ARTISTRY OF PETER [PHILIPS]. IT WAS A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE FOR ME AS I’M NOT USED TO BEING COMPLETELY COVERED IN MAKEUP, BUT I WELCOMED THE TRANSFORMATION.’’—STROMAE
