Shygirl teases New Album with Single Release, “Firefly”

Saturated with pulsating beats and candid lyrics, Nymph is an intimate look into Shygirl’s most recent experiences.

Our favorite southeast Londoner Shygirl is back. Earlier this week, the musician announced that she will be releasing a full-length album this fall. Titled Nymph, the project is a dynamic exploration into relationships, intimacy, and sexual liberation – featuring long-time friend and collaborator Sega Bodega. Also on the album are Mura Masa, Karma Kid, Arca and Cosha.

Not one to shy away from the explicit, Shygirl is unabashedly herself in this new body of work. In a previous interview with V, she shared insight into that creative ethos and vision. “Music is intrinsically about the body,” Shy explained earlier this year. “Moaning is a bodily function, but through the male gaze, looking at me as a female, it is immediately sexualized.”

And while the album doesn’t come out until September 30th, Shygirl shared her first track and accompanying visual which you can enjoy in the meantime. The new single is called “Firefly” and we can assure you it’s a club-ready banger complete with pulsating synths and electric vocals.

Her album announcement comes hot off the heels of Shygirl’s collaboration with FKA twigs on the Caprisongs track, “papi bones.” In the music video, the pair, who are dressed in head-to-toe Burberry, turn a living room into their dancehall as their song with plays overhead. And while the single marks the first creative collaboration between the two musicians, it’s not the first time they’ve been together. In May 2021, FKA twigs and Shygirl modeled for Burberry’s AW21 collection, promoting the brand’s new Olympia bag.

And if you’re like us and can’t get enough of her, the British bombshell is set to appear at several festivals this year starting next month. For all the places and dates, check here.
