Brooklyn-based and Nigerian-born artist Oyinda is all about creating a transfixing world of her own imagination: from writing and producing her own downtempo pop songs to collaborating on her latest music video, which sees the singer reborn in complete CGI. It doesn’t stop there. Later this summer, she’s set to drop three remixes of tracks from her Restless Minds EP, each with their own fully-immersive 360-degree virtual reality videos. With those released, listeners can almost literally step into her world.

In our new summer video series, “Shady,” with eyewear brand Alain Mikli, we tease a carefully curated crop of music changemakers that will appear in our forthcoming star-packed, music-focused September issue. Here, Oyinda tells us all about how she’s perfected the art of, yep, you guessed it, shade. With just a pair of sunglasses and a strong side-eye, one can say a lot without saying anything at all.

Now that’s shade.
