From innovative materials, technical details and voluminous shapes against skin-tight, ultra-short silhouettes, you can tell: STELLA McCARTNEY 2022 READY-TO-WEAR is about living in the moment and conscious of tomorrow. 

The key term drawing from the McCartney A to Z Manifesto is  Y, which stands for “Y is for Youth.” In the collection, you’ll see a youthful irreverence being energized by cartoonish animals on the jersey and brightly contrasted encrusted lace on ultra-short dresses, skirts, raver pants and flares with hot-fix diamond embroidery.

Rewriting cyberpunk codes, connecting Y2K music subcultures to the digital generation of today and hacking into the experimental edge of ravers and club kids, the collection harmonizes the nostalgic with the futuristic. 

Cyberpunk is shown in the exaggerated A-line raver pants remixed as ultra-short dresses, bodycon ruched dresses and DIY-inspired skirts. They juxtaposed with scuba corsets and cropped tight cut-out tops.

Reflective silver and high-shine black, it’s about the future for sure, but STELLA McCARTNEY makes it not too cutting-edge. A balance between hardcore technology and day-to-day mellowness, the collection picks fluoro pastels in a palette, including citrus and sherbet yellows, light orchid, bright orange and blue, neon and hot pink, to soften a hardened edginess.

In the collection, you’ll notice that the vegan, iconic Falabella tote is updated in studded, iridescent editions. The Frayme is seen as a smaller and medium-sized flap bag in a pastel palette on embossed croc and smooth Alter Mat vegan leather. Reflecting the season’s sporty spirit is the Logo bag in a new drawstring tote, as well as raffia and woven editions.

Neon dresses, fluffy knits, sporty yet sexy corsets, the collection is a modern psychedelia trip, a Y2K reminiscence, and an optimistic take on futurism. More importantly, the collection is created with 71% eco-friendly materials, including Refibra™️ recycled garment fibers, cupro and Sorona® based quilting, with a recycled nylon outer filled with 37% plant-based padding – who wouldn’t like a more conscious and cruelty-free fashion world?
