As an ongoing series, V's Contributing Beauty Editor Stella Pak indulges us with her current obsessions.

It grabs my attention when a talented man is cocky and arrogant, and I watch him get what he wants. There’s a sense of victory I relish in knowing that a man who is so determined and ambitious, who won’t let anything get in the way of his desires chases after me. When you truly get to know him at his core, he is most sensitive and vulnerable and it’s our little secret. It’s an intimate understanding to step up and protect him from the sea of judgment because through all the white noise, I think I know who he really is.

But after a year of make-out-mouth with a couple assholes, I need a break and I’m ready to play. Being single is the perfect time to express your sexuality without looking like the vision a lover prefers. It’s a time to reclaim who you are and express it through fashion and beauty. Contrary to your usual beauty trend reports, I love to wear a dark lip in the summer and go against the wave of pretty in pink flirtatious lips. It’s about juxtaposing the hard lip with a romantic fashion statement where your body reveals a softer side to who you are but your lips lay down boundaries. This style evolution can also break the bank, but I’ve discovered Maybelline’s latest launches.

I’m spoiled as a beauty editor with products flowing to my desk left and right from luxury houses. But I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised with Maybelline’s latest products and formula innovations. The Lip Studio Master Glaze Scrub Stick exfoliates your lips while the shea butter leaves them feeling supple and moisturized. As tempted as it may be to prep your lips with your go-to lip balm, stop right there. The trouble with setting up your lips with a lip balm is that it can change the formulation of your lipstick. With so much innovation and staying power the market promises, let it do its job by applying Lip Studio Prime It Up Multi-Benefit Primer. Maybe it’s because I’ve always had an affinity for dark lips since high school, I remember lining my lips with eyeliner… when I went super dark. But there are so many dark lip liners in the market, choose what look best with the shade you’re going for. Color Sensational Shine Compulsion Oil-In Lipstick in Berry Blackmail sets a warm tone to the base of your color before applying Lip Studio Glitter Fix Glitter Lip Gloss in Shadow Hunter. I prefer not to put on any foundation or contour my face for this look since the lip is so bold. Falsies False Mascara opens up your eyes to make the look effortless yet considered. Just make sure to go into the base of your lashes and comb them out thoroughly.

Set your intent for the evening. A precisely defined dark lip makes them fixate on the shape of your mouth as it says, “You can’t kiss me…yet.”
