Stone Island Customizes Porsche In Newest Project
The clothing brand collaborated alongside Arsham Studio on a Porsche 930 and a Unimog 404, complete with archived Stone Island fabrics
Stone Island has taken on perhaps their most innovative project yet. In collaboration with Daniel Arsham and race car driver Leh Keen, a 1986 Porsche 911 Turbo provided the base of a customized, off-road Porsche, using original pieces from the 70’s and 80’s. Bumpers on the front and rear were added alongside a skid plate and external light pod on the front hood, mimicking a proper rally-car, with heightened suspension and off-road tires for any and all environments.
Following tradition, lead race cars are followed by slower utility vehicles in case of emergency. Thus, the collaborators also re-imagined a Unimog U404, featuring bespoke Stone Island Tela Stella in a custom green that covers the truck bed. Both vehicles are designed to mirror the other with similar interiors and exteriors, all using Stone Island fabrics and materials wherever possible.
Specially-crafted Stone Island moleskin covers the seats to enhance grip for the driver. The fabric was dyed, treated, and lasered with Arsham Studio monogram camouflage, improving functionality while adding style. Stone Island and Arsham also came together to create a collection of jumpsuits and Tela Stella carry-all bags, intended exclusively for friends & family.
The Safari project is accompanied by a 10-minute documentary narrated by Arsham himself, featuring Keen and directed by Jeremy Elkin. The short film depicts the two vehicles’ restoration process, taking place between New York, Atlanta and California.
The project was on display at the La Brea Stone Island Store in Los Angeles on March 19th and 20th. You can find the film on stoneisland.com, on Stone Island social media channels and on RED Digital Cinema.
