Stream Originals, Posthumous Prince Album, on Tidal Now

Commemorate what would have been Princes 61st birthday by streaming Originals, the mastermind’s 15-track album of unreleased songs, on Tidal.

Most of his fans would die for some new music by V84 cover boy Prince. Leave it to Beyoncé and Jay-Z to grant us with that wish. Tidal, Bey and Jay’s subscription-based streaming platform dropped a 15-track album titled Originals of previously unreleased Prince music today, on what would have been the legend’s 61st birthday.

The catch? The LP is comprised of songs that Prince wrote and ultimately gave to other artists who recorded them. Originals was curated by Troy Carter, on behalf of Prince’s estate, and Jay-Z. Hits like the Bangles’ “Manic Monday” and Sheila E.’s “The Glamorous Life” appear on the album alongside the legend’s original cut of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which was released as a single last year.

Tidal’s release of this album didn’t come without some trial and tribulation. The agreement was finally reached last year after a lengthy legal battle concerning exclusivity rights. The disagreement started between the late icon’s estate and Tidal back in 2016, the year the world lost the pop genius.

Tidal will exclusively stream Originals for two weeks from June 7th – 20th. Prince’s estate and Warner Bros. are then responsible for the physical release on June 21st. If Bey’s “Lemonade” wasn’t enough to get you to give in to a Tidal subscription, then this hour-long sneak peek is likely the moment you just can’t refuse.
