SuperM, the All Stars of KPop, Release New Single ‘100’
Who’s afraid of the KPop Dream Team?
KPop has nothing left to prove in terms of global reach: the likes of BTS have sold out stadium tours in seconds, Blackpink’s Coachella set was dubbed sensational, and there are millions (if not more) of ‘stans’ in every continent. The phenomenon is almost hypervisible, leaving it to the industry to decide where to venture next.
For Capitol and SM Entertainment—both synonymous with KPop proliferation—the decision came without a second thought. Take members of the most renowned groups, from EXO to SHINee, and recalibrate them to form something all the more ubiquitous. The amalgamation, SuperM, does just that; picture the Avengers, only with synthetic melodies in lieu of combat artillery.
Though, the group’s work is certainly forceful, and leaves no room for resistance. Their latest single, ‘100’, is delivered over an intense bass-driven track, repeating “we’re going straight to the top” with a cadence. And they are: in a press release, the group chalked it up to them all being “super beings, and each ‘One’ of us have our own power, so let’s overcome the difficulties we are experiencing with ‘One’ unified strength.”
The accompanying video is just as formidable. One might assume the members are all a tight knit army, moving together with remarkable prowess. While the group was only recently formed, there’s no mistaking the chemistry there. It’s intoxicating.
Watch the ‘100’ video below, and look out for SuperM’s performance on Good Morning America on August 20.
