Amongst the sea of celebrities at Monday’s Met Gala, The Met Museum’s annual fundraising event held in support of The Costume Institute in New York City, donning their interpretations of Karl Lagerfeld’s signature design and style codes, you would have found the dazzling creations of Sergio Hudson on the likes of American actresses Rachel Brosnahan and Keke Palmer.

Sporting custom gowns by Hudson, the show-stopping creations were both embellished with Swarovski crystals. Brosnahan’s sheer, long-sleeved gown featured over 4,000 hand-embroidered Swarovski crystals. For Palmer’s gown, which used multi-color pastel tweed, was embellished with over 12,000 Swarovski crystals and pearls, as the opera coat was crafted using silk faille and silk taffeta.

“I really wanted to use tweed and ended up creating my own for the gown. I then wanted to encrust the gown with crystals and pearls to add an extra texture, so of course Swarovski came to mind. When I saw their Ignite collection I knew it would add the perfect touch to complete the look,” notes Hudson.

“I really wanted to reference Karl Lagerfeld’s wide range of work so my inspiration came from a few different sources. When I talked with Rachel and got a sense of how she wanted to feel, Karl’s work at Chloe in the ’90s came to mind. I envisioned Swarovski touches to complete the look, so I’m really happy it all came together,” explains Hudson to V.

“For Keke’s look, I was inspired by Karl’s work at Patou and Balmain mixed with his work from Chanel in the early 90s, so it’s a mashup of his late 50s and early 90s work.”

To compliments both look, both Palmer and Brosnahan completed their looks with Swarovski jewelry, using the house’s Lucent Hoop Earrings and Matrix Tennis Bracelet, both available for purchase now.
