SZA Drops New Single “Hit Different” Featuring Ty Dolla $ign

The R&B artist accompanied her new single with a music video, marking her directorial debut.

Chart-topping R&B female artist SZA is back, dropping “Hit Different,” her new track featuring Ty Dolla $ign, on Friday morning.

The track is produced by The Neptunes and accompanied by a self-directed music video, marking SZA’s directorial debut. In it, a monochromatic-outfit-cladded SZA dances while reflecting on the ups and downs of a casual, open relationship.

Released via TDE/RCA Records (SZA was the first female artist to join TDE in 2013), “Hit Different” brings back the artist’s signature mellow, hypnotic vocals, complemented by Ty Dolla $ign’s smooth tone.

The artist cryptically announced new music in a Tweet only the day before dropping the single.

Fans have waited for new music from the artist since the release of her 2017 debut album Ctrl, which is currently 2x Platinum and has been nominated for four Grammy Awards, while SZA received the Grammy nomination for Best New Artist and has won a number of other awards, including the 2018 Billboard Women in Music Rule Breaker, BET Award for Best New Artist, and Billboard Music Award in Top R&B Female Artist. Since then, she has teamed up with Justin Timberlake on “The Other Side” from the Trolls World Tour soundtrack and Kendrick Lamar on “All The Stars” from Black Panther: The Album
