Take the ‘Black Parade Route’ With Beyoncé

Juneteenth may be over, but this celebration is all year long.

Beyoncé’s going “back to the South”, leading the ‘Black Parade’ on the way. Her newest release celebrates her Texan roots and Juneteenth, an open love letter to Blackness in all forms.

“I hope we continue to share joy and celebrate each other, even in the midst of struggle,” she wrote on Instagram. “Please continue to remember our beauty, strength and power.”

The project, her first solo endeavor since Homecoming, supports the efforts of Black-owned businesses. “I’m for us, all black, all chrome, black-owned,” she calls out as she navigates a southern-brass inspired beat. The chorus similarly refuses to become a background refrain, instead materializing into a pressing call to action.

As she writes on her website, “Being Black is your activism. Black excellence is a form of protest. Black joy is your right.” The ‘Black Parade Route’ demands that right be not only protected, but celebrated.
