Talking Toxic with Tink

Tink kicks of 2023 with a new video for her brand new track “Toxic”

If you’re lucky enough to have never experienced a toxic relationship in your life, someone around you certainly has. Those cycles of harm are what R&B singer and lyricist Tink explores with her new single “Toxic.” The track, which was executively produced by multi-platinum producer Hitmaka, is all about gravitating toward that person that everyone knows is trouble.

When speaking about the new song, Tink describes it as something “that puts me in that mode every day […] I love to see the girls pop their shit and this is me setting the tone for the year. I’m just approaching everything harder, speaking on real things.”

The first scene in the accompanying video for “Toxic” draws inspiration from the musical Chicago, as Tink and her crew dance behind bars, referencing the musical’s infamous “Cell Block Tango.” Next, we find the RIAA-certified-gold artist at the dinner table, crawling to – presumably – her ex-man as she asserts her dominance over him. And the power play doesn’t end there. The video ends with Tink sitting pretty on her throne, surrounded by her exes – each blindfolded on their knees and labeled with a number around their necks. Talk about exerting one’s dominance.

“Toxic” marks the singer’s first release since her 2022 project Pillow Talk, which spanned 16 tracks and amassed over 126 million streams to date. From collaborations with rappers such as 2 Chainz and G Herbo, to gaining a Cardi B cosign to even owning all of her masters, Tink is no stranger to success and 2023 is shaping up to be no different.
