Taylor Swift Teases Re-Recorded ‘Love Story’

The singer gave us a taste of what’s coming.

Taylor Swift surprised fans this Wednesday (Dec. 2) with a snippet of her new recording of the smash hit “Love Story,” from her 2008 album “Fearless.” The song was featured in a new ad written by Ryan Reynolds for dating website Match.

“Okay so while my new re-records are NOT done, my friend @VancityReynolds asked me if he could use a snippet of one for a LOLsome commercial he wrote so…here’s a sneak peak of Love Story!,” she tweeted

The minute-and-a-half-long clip follows the budding romance between a red horned beast and none other than… 2020 itself. We see the couple working out and posing for selfies in front of a burning dumpster. “I just don’t want this year to end,” the crimson creature says at the end, while the pair watches fireballs falling from the sky. “A match made in hell is still a @match,” Reynolds tweeted

Swift was only 18 when she released “Love Story.” The new version still yields the original’s distinct country tunes, now amped up with the singer’s more mature voice. She began re-recording music from her 2006 self-titled album, “Fearless” (2008), “Speak Now” (2010), “Red” (2012), and “1989” (2014), following a back-and-forth dispute over the ownership of her masters with her former label Big Machine and manager Scooter Braun. More recently, the catalog was bought by Shamrock Holdings. In an interview for Good Morning America in 2019, the artist revealed her contract allowed her to re-record her five albums starting November 2020 – a date Swifties all over the world celebrated with #TaylorIsFree

Answering fan questions at GMA last week, Swift seemed joyous as she talked about the re-recording process again. “So far, of the ones I’ve recorded, I think it’s been the most fun doing ‘Love Story’ because the older music, my voice was so teenaged and I sometimes, when I hear my older music and my older young teenage voice, it makes me feel like I’m a different singer now,” she said. “So it’s been the most fun to re-record ones that I feel like I could actually possibly improve upon the song.”
