Taylor Swift’s ‘Folklore’ is Already the Best Selling Album of 2020
‘Folklore’ is the best selling album of 2020 and No. 1 on Billboard’s 200.

Taylor Swift’s “Folklore” is already the most popular album of 2020 and it’s only been a little over a week since it dropped.
Swift’s rise to the top comes as “Folklore” becomes the best selling album of 2020 and obtains the number one spot on Billboard’s 200 chart. The past seven Swift albums have all debuted as number one on Billboard — setting a record among female artists.
Before “Folklore” released, Juice WRLD’s “Legends Never Die” held the highest spot for Billboard’s biggest week for an album. But Swift’s release far surpassed Juice WRLD’s record for 2020.
Swift is no stranger to setting records. For the past four years, Swift has dominated album releases. Swift’s “Reputation,” “Lover” and “Folklore” all had the most popular album release week.
“Folklore” is the first Swift album to be released as a surprise. Her last album “Lover” took the typical album release track and dropped the Brendon Urie single “Me!” before its full release at the end of the summer.
“Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed,” Swift said on Twitter.
Swift’s Twitter announcement was met with a wave of social media excitement as she shared that the entire album was written and recorded in isolation. “Folklore” is Swift’s first alternative labeled album and explores the artist’s fears and fantasies.
“In isolation my imagination has run wild and this album is the result, a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness,” Swift wrote on Instagram.
“Folklore” arrives not even a year after Swift’s last studio album, “Lover”, which dropped last August. Fans can listen to the album here or watch the music video for “Cardigan” here.
