Telfar x Converse Collab Kicks Off Paris Fashion Week

The New York-based designer brings the Americana style across the Atlantic.

Opening the last installment of fashion month, fashion designer Telfar Clemens held his Spring/Summer 2020 show this morning alternatively in Paris as opposed to his usual New York presentation. The collection showed normcore American sportswear staples with a twist—hearty cargo vests and (all too familiar) gym class shorts were deconstructed and matched in new ways outside of the expected. Telfar went full Frankenstein this season cross-breeding different styles like capes on pants and mismatched pant legs. The Queens-born designer takes the reigns of the handbag game with new colors and patterns of his increasingly popular shopping bag style, including a show-stopping bubblegum pink edition.

The coed collection was topped off with the reveal of a surprise collaboration with Converse sneakers. Iconic silhouettes like the Pro Leather, ERX and Chuck 70 were all reinterpreted for the runway in ways never been done before. Remixing the basketball style of the late 80s, the ERX sneakers are featured as a sandal for the first time. Similarly, the Pro Leather sneaker, which first debuted in 1976, is envisioned as a casual slip-on sandal for a whole new take on an original classic. The Chuck 70 appears throughout the presentation with adaptations of it’s iconic canvas logo printed on t-shirts, as well as expressive graphics that play on the patterns featured in the show.

Following various heritage silhouettes, Telfar sets himself apart with a distinct style of rewriting the ordinary to create his own narrative on the runway.
