The 2019 VMAs as Told by the Tweets

This year’s awarded ceremony gave Twitter a lot to talk about.

If anybody thought the VMAs had lost their edge in recent years, the 2019 edition definitely reminded us why it is one of the most iconic evenings in the entertainment industry. From Lizzo chugging tequila in front of a giant booty balloon to Missy Elliott finally getting honored with the MTV Video Vanguard Award, here are the best moments of yesterday night as told by the tweets.

We tapped V’s business manager and twitter queen Kelly Keegan to deliver her live commentary of the award ceremony.

Let’s get right to it!

A mood.

Taylor Swift opening the show with a medley of “You Need to Calm Down” and “Lover”

She also won Video of the Year for “You Need to Calm Down”, ten years after Kanye West stormed on that same stage when she won Best Female Video. In her acceptance speech, she thanked fans for signing the petition calling for the Equality Act, which is promoted at the end of the video, and called out President Donald Trump: “It now has half a million signatures, which is five times the amount that it would need to warrant a response from the White House.”

She also brought out Alyson Stoner, who danced in the “Work It” video as a little girl 17 years ago.

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello singing Señorita live for the first time

The former V cover stars gave a steamy rendition of the song, teasing the audience with a kiss.

Miley Cyrus singing her new breakup song “Slipped Away” in an emotional black and white setting

It was the first time Cyrus performed since her separation from husband Liam Hemsworth was announced.
