The 2021 Golden Globe Nominations Are Here
At this point, it’s pretty much a win for Netflix over everything
The 78th Golden Globe nominations have finally been announced and you might as well rename them the “Netflix Awards.”
Netflix garnered a whopping 42 nominations for this year’s ceremony, with runner-ups Amazon Prime and Hulu trailing far behind with 10 nods each. Leading the charge for Netflix are Mank, The Trial of the Chicago 7, “Ozark,” and “The Crown.”
In fact, Mank and The Trial of the Chicago 7 are the leaders in the movie category, picking up six and five nominations respectively. Other films like Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Nomadland, and Promising Young Woman also managed to pick up multiple nominations. Chadwick Boseman picks up a posthumous best actor nomination after his tragic demise last year for his role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. And Sacha Baron Cohen manages to pick up nominations in both the best actor and supporting actor categories for Borat and Chicago 7 respectively.
The women rule the roost this year round, as three women are nominated for best director, those being Regina King, Chloé Zhao, and Emerald Fennell, for their work on One Night in Miami, Nomadland, and Promising Young Woman respectively. They’re joined by David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin.
In the TV categories, “The Crown” leads with six nominations, followed by Emmy sweeper “Schitt’s Creek,” “Ozark,” and “The Undoing.” Netflix favorites “Unorthodox” and “The Queen’s Gambit” also got two nods each, with Anya Taylor-Joy and Shira Haas each receiving best actress nods. All four “Schitt’s Creek” main cast members pick up nominations, along with Olivia Colman, who is nominated for best actress in “The Crown” along with a best supporting actress in a motion picture nomination for The Father. Taylor-Joy receives the same honor, also being recognized for best actress in a motion picture for Emma.
Hulu’s main representatives are the movie Palm Springs and the steamy miniseries, “Normal People.” Jane Fonda will receive this year’s Cecil B. DeMille award, while Norman Lear will be the recipient of the Carol Burnett award.
The 78th Golden Globes will air on February 28, 2021 and will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for the fourth time. Check out the complete list of nominees below.
