The Best-Dressed Men at the Met Gala

Each of the best-dressed men had different interpretations of the gala’s “Gilded Glamour” theme.

It’s the first Tuesday of May, which means it’s time to analyze all the looks from last night’s Met Gala. Despite the dreary, rainy weather in New York, many of our favorite celebrities found a way to shine on the red carpet.

The theme, of course, was Gilded Glamour, a continuation of September’s “In America” concept. While most of the guests managed to at least attempt to fit the theme, some people (ahem, Sebastian Stan) decided to keep us on our toes and go completely off script.

However, the men of Met all looked sharp, with well-tailored suits and tuxedos galore. True to the theme, there were also plenty of men who sported jewels, with diamond necklaces and brooches littering the red carpet, along with an array of luxury watches.

Here’s VMAN’s round-up of all the best-dressed men of the evening:

Shawn Mendes – Tommy Hilfiger

Singer Shawn Mendes was both on theme and weather appropriate in this navy and maroon Tommy Hilfiger coat, made from sustainable materials. The coat encompassed the gilded theme via its gold crest buttons. Mendes wore a classic tuxedo underneath, and even painted his nails to match Tommy Hilfiger’s logo.

Ryan Reynolds – Ralph Lauren, Omega watch

It’s impossible to look bad with Blake Lively by your side, but Ryan Reynolds managed to steal a bit of her spotlight with this very gilded velvet Ralph Lauren tuxedo. His Omega watch had a green dial, tying his look in perfectly with Blake’s color changing gown.

Pete Davidson – Dior, Rolex watch

Much like Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, Pete Davidson wore exactly the right suit to pair with Kim’s stunning “Happy Birthday Mr. President” Marilyn Monroe dress. His perfectly tailored Dior suit was extremely stylish, and his sunglasses and Rolex Datejust watch added glamour without taking the attention away from Kim, a win in our book.

Austin Butler – Prada, Cartier jewelry

The new Elvis Presley rocked the red carpet in this satin Prada lapelled shirt and matching slacks. He glammed-up the outfit with Cartier jewelry, including a stunning diamond necklace. He attended the gala with Presley’s ex-wife, Priscilla.

Sebastian Stan – Valentino

Sebastian Stan’s look was simply not on theme. But do we care? No, not when he looked this good. The actor rocked his Pepto-Bismol pink Valentino get up, which included matching sneakers AND socks. Monochromatic looks like this were not exactly all the rage in the late 1800’s, but maybe they should’ve been.

Joe Jonas – Louis Vuitton, Fred Leighton jewelry

Oh, baby! Joe Jonas turned heads on the red carpet with his pregnant wife, Sophie Turner. His white tux took on Gilded Glamour with the addition of a floor length, lace coattail and an eye-catching necklace from Fred Leighton.

Jack Harlow – Givenchy, Rolex watch

The rapper went outside of the box with this shiny, chocolate brown double-breasted Givenchy suit. He finished the look with a Rolex Sky-Dweller watch, patent leather dress shoes, and his signature curls.

Evan Mock – Head of State, Cartier jewelry

Someone had to show up with a classic Gilded era ruffled tulip collar. Actor Evan Mock chose a fully on-theme creme satin suit from Head of State, with a corset jacket and low-rise trousers. His square-toe boots, Cartier rings, and black manicure added a contemporary edge to the look.

Jared Leto and Alessandro Michele – Gucci

Jared Leto and Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele twinned at the Met Gala, sporting matching hair styles, sunglasses, and gloves. The pair’s floral suit was classic Gucci, as was their burnt orange clutch.

Dwayne Wade – Versace, Tiffany & Co jewelry, Vacheron Constantin watch

Basketball legend Dwayne Wade went shirtless for fashion’s biggest night. He accessorized his birthday suit with an actual white Versace suit, as well as a double-layered diamond necklace and brooch from Tiffany & Co. and a Vacheron Constantin watch. He added another twist by bringing a very on-theme cane to the carpet.

Conan Gray – Valentino

The singer and Valentino muse wore an eye-catching silver outfit at his first Met Gala. His sequin pants, embroidered tulle shirt, and chiffon cape brought modern influences to the gilded theme. He completed the look with another contemporary detail: his custom Valentino platform boots.

Giveon – Chanel, Chanel jewelry

Grammy-nominated singer Giveon wore a Chanel Pre-Fall 2022 embroidered tweed jacket, and topped off the look with even more Chanel: both of his necklaces were from their fine jewelry line, as was his Monsieur Diamond Chanel watch.

J Balvin – Ralph Lauren

Colombian singer and rapper J Balvin sported a Ralph Lauren suit with a long tail and a white waistcoat. He accessorized with several sparking brooches and a cane, just like DWade. The real star was his neon green buzzcut, which was definitely not on theme, but looked good nonetheless.

Patrick Schwarzenegger – Lanvin, Cartier watch

Actor Patrick Schwarzenegger wore a unique peach colored suit, and killed the theme with a satin bow tied around his neck and a red fedora, a modern take on a Gilded era hat.  To accessorize, he wore a Tank Louis Cartier watch with a red strap, to match his red leather shoes.

Travis Barker – Thom Browne

Rocker Travis Barker wore a classically American Thom Browne ‘fit, with a dark grey suit jacket, matching trousers, and a matching skirt. Of course, his fiancé Kourtney Kardashian was there too, and the pair provided us with even more PDA in their his and hers outfits (her Thom Browne outfit was a deconstructed version of his).

Ashton Sanders – Casablanca

Ashton Sanders nailed the theme with this denim Casablanca look. The nigh neckline, bodice-style jacket, gold trim, and jewel-encrusted gloves all scream Gilded age. The actor added an extra surprise to his 19th century Canadian tuxedo with bright contact lenses and vampire teeth.
