In lieu of Milan Fashion Week, Moschino launched its Spring 2023 collection, echoing the reality of the bitter issues society faces presently. However, it’s not all doom and gloom. Back and comfortably situated in womenswear after his first all-menswear show in Milan last year, the infamous creative director Jeremy Scott’s motive is mood buoyancy. Cognizant of the issues of today, Scott invites us to hold space for joy, signaling questions between illusion and reality – another conceptual adjunct to the complexity of our era. Layered with double entendre and wit, the collection prompts a trompe l’oeil effect.

Copiousness pool couture kicks off daytime looks to “stay afloat.” The symbolic uplift consists of Boxy jackets, sporty dresses, and functional skirts featuring faux-blow up hearts, a loving imbued version of the famed Moschino icon. A direct twist on the word “inflation” enters the relief, with pool toys, life rafts, and life preservers taking shape across suiting, refined daywear, graphic-impact eveningwear, and accessories.

Rendered in bright yellow, a shoulder-strap cocktail dress is replete with a flotation device around the waist and safety cords at the bust and the hem. A noir jacket and trouser suit boast inflatable lapels and pocket covers on the former, complete with oral valves for aerating the accents. As the debut progresses, a touch more formality drifts to the top as a pink blazer and skirt set with floaties at the cuffs, a blow-up-collar classic moto jacket paired with a midi-skirt, and a patterned column dress is complemented by a pool raft stole.

Cranking up the heat one last time, the levity collection concludes with evening dresses and gowns. With a touch of lighthearted drama, an inflatable swan bolero graces one languid and draped silhouette. A pool ring graces the waist of a one-shouldered ruffled and printed dress. With additional humor, in the spirit of joy, a petal pink Grecian frock features a pair of inflatable dolphin flanks around the arms.
