The Dare Returns with Debut of “Freakquencies: Vol. 1”

Building meaning through connection, Harrison Patrick Smith’s work is deliberate, with each new context sharpening the through line of his perspective
Out August 22, Freakquencies: Vol. 1 is The Dare’s first project-length release made specifically for the dance floor. Its lead single “Tambourine” (listen here) is streaming NOW, providing a sneak peek into a sound shaped by late nights in New York and influences from across the globe.
This is the first installment in a series of EPs aimed directly at the dancefloor,” The Dare says. “These four tracks were made for and spun at various Freakquencies parties around the globe. They marry some of my latest and greatest loves: French touch, big beat, electro and acid. Whatever gets you there.”

Best known as a vocalist, songwriter, and producer, Harrison Patrick Smith (aka The Dare) has spent the past year pushing his sound and presence even further. After a sold-out seven-night residency at Baby’s All Right and festival sets at Coachella and Primavera Sound, he’ll hit stages this summer at Reading, Leeds, and Austin City Limits.
Now, inspired by his now-iconic New York party that began in the basement of Home Sweet Home, Freakquencies Vol. 1 has evolved into an international nightlife staple. The series has sold out events in cities like Mexico City, London, Paris, Barcelona, and Los Angeles, while packing out Brooklyn venues like Elsewhere, Public Records, Knockdown Center, and 3 Dollar Bill. Recent lineups have included Doss, Danny L Harle, Dylan Brady, Kelly Lee Owens, and Fcukers.
The four-track release features “Tambourine” and the forthcoming MC5-sampling “Kick,” each channeling the grit, euphoria, and sonic chaos of the club nights they were made for. The EP follows What’s Wrong With New York?: Afters, the expanded edition of The Dare’s debut album, which earned praise from NPR, The New York Times, PAPER, and more. That project included breakout single “Girls,” which has since racked up over 62 million Spotify streams, alongside cult favorites “Perfume” and “Good Time.”
Outside the booth, his influence has spilled into fashion and pop culture. He’s worked with Charli XCX, Yves Tumor, and Brutalismus 3000, soundtracked shows for Gucci and Celine, and produced PinkPantheress’ track “Stateside” for her Fancy That mixtape. He also remixed Justice’s “Mannequin Love” from their 2024 LP and joined Charli XCX at this year’s Grammys.
Evidently, the breadth of his work across fashion, pop, and underground nightlife reflects his ability to build relationships, learn the language of each space, and stay rooted in a consistent point of view. Rather than diluting his identity, each new collaboration or context seems to sharpen it, pulling his universe into focus.
