The Eternal Life of Fine Jewelry

Recycled gold is given a new life with Prada’s latest venture in Fine Jewelry.

Luxury no longer simply means wonderfully beautiful products, made from the best materials. It also means the luxury to consider where your next fashion item comes from and use your buying power to ensure best practices in the world of fashion retail. We don’t often consider what happens to luxury items when they get discarded, the whole point especially with fine jewelry is to retain and cherish pieces, so they can go from fantastically new to one day becoming wonderfully preserved vintage pieces. More often than not, this doesn’t happen.

What does the average jewelry enthusiast really know about where their pieces come from? We like to assume the best though more often than we’d like that’s not the case. Now some fashion houses are challenging standards. The most brilliant stone in Prada’s new line is the glimmering transparency of their supply chain, pushing past arcane industry standards and holding themselves to higher standards, proving that designers can be the change their patrons want them to be. Prada Fine Jewelry has created a line called ‘ETERNAL GOLD’ dedicated to the use of 100% recycled gold. It is the first line of its kind. Patrons can even verify jewelry pieces through Aura Consortium Blockchain’s platform to trace their piece’s journey. This act of radical transparency by the brand may be the nudge other fashion houses need to follow suit.

Prada found inspiration in the sustainable process, meditating on the concept of eternity, to consider the past, present, and future of gold jewelry, pushing to create ‘neo-classics, everlasting pieces’. Embodying the essence of the Prada aesthetic was, of course, a priority. The Prada Triangle, a wordless logo created by the founder Mario Prada is used for earrings along with classic motifs that continue to be used and worn in jewelry design long past their conception.
