Presented in the courtyard of the Louvre, designer Nicolas Ghesquière constructed a sterilely lit futuristic runway to welcome his SS19 Louis Vuitton ready-to-wear collection. Focusing in on his innate instincts, Ghesquière has crafted a range of clothing embracing nostalgia but with forward-thinking spark and innovation.

Using created prints that read as though they hail from an early Microsoft Windows era, the collection's base is found in the way each pop of color forms shape and layers. Abstract forms develop a pattern like effect, calling back to the image of a former mindset of futuristic thinking. The collection's innovation shines brightest when breaking down the attention and work of each of these garment's sleeves. Some long and some short, some architectural and some knit, the playground of Ghesquière's vision belongs to the way he fits and flairs each piece from the shoulder to the elbow or wrist.

In finale, Ghesquière reveals a trio of saturatedly floral "spacesuits" expertly tailored, with lines proudly calling back to the age of excess. A gesture towards the intended translation of this collection: the future was then, and the future is now.
