The Governors Ball 2019 Recap: Everything That Happened on Friday

A look inside one of New York’s biggest festivals.

Fans of the New York music scene and frequent festival-attendees alike flocked to Randall’s Island on Friday to take in the weekend’s lineup for The Governors Ball 2019. The headliners were undeniably stacked for Friday’s series of performances. Hippo Campus started off the night’s list of anticipated performances following sets by Still Woozy, Amber Mark, Jeremy Zucker, and more. Brockhampton hit the stage at 6:45 PM, kicking off the night’s lineup of standout headliners.

Next, Blood Orange hit the stage at sundown, wowing the crowd with a performance accented by saxophone solos and the band’s unique punk-influenced sound. As the sun set on Randall’s Island, music fans waited in anticipation for Lil Wayne‘s Friday performance. The rapper hyped up the crowd with his own rendition of Lil Nas X‘s much-loved summer anthem “Old Town Road”, throwbacks like “Mrs. Officer” and “A Milli,” as well as newer tracks that got everyone dancing.

Tyler, The Creator capped off the night with a standout set following the release of his new album, IGOR. The artist brought his new era to life by donning a neon green suit, a blonde bowl cut wig, and bumping fan-favorite tracks like “IGOR’s Theme,” “New Magic Wand” and “What’s Good,” all from his critically-acclaimed new album.

Friday certainly prepped fans for what they can expect from The Governors Ball 2019 — a diverse lineup of new artists and old favorites that has attracted music lovers from across the country.
