The Governors Ball 2019 Recap: Stormy Weather Disrupts Sunday’s Lineup

Starting with a delayed opening and ending with multiple canceled acts, Gov Ball’s last day left many fans up in arms.

The third day of The Governors Ball 2019 definitely didn’t go off without a hitch. The festival started approximately seven hours late at 6:30 p.m, following reports of extreme thunderstorms and inclement weather. Many of the lineup’s highly-anticipated artists including Lily Allen, Louis the Child, and headliner Nas were able to perform their sets. However, many of the day’s performers including SZA, The Strokes, Charli XCX, and Beast Coast were forced to cancel due to stormy weather.

The Governors Ball staff released a statement at 9:30 PM, effectively canceling the rest of the day’s performances. Soon, the once vibrant scene descended into a Fyre Festival-like chaos. Soaked and angry music fans crammed onto buses, jumped over bushes, and even walked across the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge in order to make their way back to Manhattan. As reports continued to trickle in of poor fan experiences, many wondered how The Governors Ball would respond to concerns.

While many fans were disappointed by the climactic end to the weekend’s festivities, The Governors Ball has been quick to address concerns by offering refunds for Sunday ticket-holders. Many, however, still claim they’ll never be coming back to the festival.

Hopefully, the sun will shine a little brighter on The Governors Ball 2020.
