The Inspiring Story Behind Chloé Partnership With Made For A Woman
This sustainable capsule is part of the Chloé Spring-Summer 2023 Collection and it is now available for purchase
For the first time, fashion house Chloé partners up with environmentally sustainable and socially responsible luxury brand Made For A Woman (M4W), inviting us to reflect on the impact that our behavior as consumers of fashion has on the world.
Open your closet: do you know the story behind your clothes? Where do they come from? With this capsule, Chloé and M4W will help you answer these questions. Through this collaboration, they crafted two woven raffia hats that you will have the chance to follow along from the very beginning of their journey. Inspired by Chloé designs, the hats are brought to life by Made For A Woman – a “sustainable business model based on gender equality” that embraces ethical fashion. In other words, each piece is the celebration of the work of the talented artisan that stands behind its production. Every M4W piece, as well as those that come from its partnership with the Paris-based brand, are 100% handmade. Although the production might be slower than usual because of limited capacity, this approach will ensure a positive impact on the planet and its community.
“Supply-chain transparency and putting our artisans first is the core of Made For A Woman’s brand ethos,” explains Made For A Woman Founder and Designer, Eileen Akbaraly. “This collaboration is a testament to Chloé’s dedication to reducing environmental footprint while ensuring positive social principles,” she adds.
The capsule features the Sun Embroideries Hat, which is adorned with abstract flowers in woven raffia, and the Straw Hat, which is an intricate series of knots – an unprecedented technique used by M4W for the first time for this collaboration. Each hat (and packaging, too!) is made from locally sourced sustainable materials and organic AZO-free dyes, the same that M4W uses for all its creations.
So where do these hats come from? Where do their journeys begin? The Made For A Woman Atelier is based in Madagascar and it focuses on improving the quality of life of marginalized women and Malagasy people. It employs over 350 local artisans and supports them through the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015, with benefits such as education, hygiene, healthcare, and empowerment. Remember: there is a human being and a story to acknowledge behind everything we wear.
The capsule is available for purchase online and in Chloé stores worldwide.
