The new collaboration between LA Museum and Nana Komatsu reimagines what is possible in the realm of fashion exhibitions. The globally accessible digital museum presents an archive exhibition digitally constructed using Komatsu as its model.

The digital exhibition, titled LA Museum Nana Komatsu, features over 50 historical garments from some of fashion’s most influential designers. Standout pieces include works by Jean-Paul Gaultier, Yohji Yamamoto, Thierry Mugler, and Claude Montana. Creations from legends such as Romeo Gigli, Michèle Lamy, and Rei Kawakubo are also featured. Multiple members of the Antwerp Six are represented, including Dries Van Noten, Marina Yee, Dirk Van Saene, and Ann Demeulemeester. The works span from the 1960s through the 2000s.

Nana Komatsu is a Japanese actress and model replacing mannequins as the stand-in model for the digital exhibition. In addition to her multidisciplinary performance work, she is a member of the Business of Fashion’s BOF 500 Class of 2025. According to the LA Museum, she presents “each garment in motion through expressive poses that add dynamism, fluidity and human dimension to every silhouette.”

A hardcover book has been released to accompany the exhibition. LA Museum Nana Komatsu captures behind-the-scenes moments from the exhibition’s two-day shoot. The book features Nana Komatsu in all the designer works from the exhibition.
