The Nominees for the 2020 Tony Awards Are Here

Watch James Monroe Iglehart read the nominees for the highly coveted 74th Annual Tony Awards via a livestream video.

The nominees for the 74th Annual Tony Awards were announced earlier today via YouTube by James Monroe Iglehart, who received a Tony Award in 2014 for the role of Genie in “Aladdin.” The list includes a total of 18 plays, musicals, and play revivals including Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Jagged Little Pill, and Slave Play.

Also a part of the list are renowned Broadway actors such as Andrew Burnap (The Inheritance), James Moyer (Slave Play) and Aaron Tveit (Moulin Rouge!: The Musical). The Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre will be co-presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.

The decisions for the nominations were voted on by the Nominating Committee on October 13. Only the productions that had opened on or before February 19 will be considered eligible for an award.

The 74th Annual Tony Awards was originally set to take place on June 7, 2020 at Radio City Music Hall, however it was postponed thanks to Broadway’s untimely shut down onset by the COVID – 19 pandemic.

In August, the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing announced that they would be going digital and stream the Award ceremony online this fall. Details regarding the location and date of the ceremony remain up in the air.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to recognize Broadway’s magnificent work during the 2019-2020 season,” said Heather Hitchens, President & CEO of the American Theatre Wing. “Our Broadway community has been incredibly resilient during this difficult time, and we look forward to paying tribute to the performers and artists.”
