There was a lot of anticipation surrounding the 92nd Academy Awards — and the event sure did not disappoint. Concluding the 2019/2020 awards season, last night’s ceremony gave us everything we wanted and then some: Parasite won in a total of four categories (one of them being best picture), Joaquin Phoenix took best actor for Joker, and Jacqueline Durran went home with best costume design for Little Women. All in all, the Academy and the crowd were determined to make history on Hollywood’s biggest night.

The red carpet was full of pinnacles last night: Natalie Portman wore a stunning Dior gown embroidered with the names of female filmmakers overlooked by this year’s Oscars; Brie Larson flaunted a fully embroidered gown adorned with hundreds of thousands of sequins, beads, Swarovski crystals and strass jewels; and Billie Eilish showed up in an oversized Chanel look that reflected her signature style as much as it did the House’s hallmark features.
