Miuccia Prada was once quoted as saying, “For me, the skirt is like a T-shirt.” So it makes perfect sense that Prada’s Spring/Summer 2027 show is centered around the one clothing item that makes the Prada world go round: skirts. It’s a piece Prada has become known for: midi skirts that reimagine the classic pencil style. Designed by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, the skirt served as the season’s ultimate centerpiece. Becoming an obsession, Prada and Simons hone in on a dialogue of this single garment through variation.

The show opened with a red skirt featuring a high slit paired with a black lace bra. The look is sexy and simple. The model wears little other than a striking red skirt, setting the tone for the rest of the collection. Next, a similar skirt is paired with a sweater, then a button-up. Each proves the functionality and versatility of the skirt. With the following looks, the collection expanded. An oversized leather jacket was paired with a floral miniskirt. 

With this collection, Prada created a new language through the use of materials. Velcro, crystal embroidery, and metal snaps each serve a distinct purpose, maintaining functionality. Juxtaposition exists in the styling of these skirts. A bra top contrasts with a full skirt. In other looks, an oversized sweater draws attention. The collection considers a familiar piece, imagining it in varied forms; demonstrating an exploration of possibilities.
