Let’s face it: a global pandemic can really have a negative impact on a person’s sex life. The fact that social distancing has become the norm (and there’s few dingy clubs or bars to really set the mood for meeting people), the lack of opportunities to get it on is kind of disheartening.

Cue Netflix – one of the few things that have really had our back during this very weird and scary time. The streaming platform is no stranger to including some seriously steamy scenes within its content, to the point where most of us have to furiously check content warnings before watching with family in order to avoid a really awkward situation. As the rest of the world tries to fill a certain void, it’s no surprise that Netflix’s latest Polish thriller, 365 Days (Polish: 365 Dni), became the most-watched movie on the platform just two days after its June 7 debut.

Based on an erotic novel by Blanka Lipinska, the film centers on a Sicilian mafia boss, Massimo (Michele Morrone), who is obsessed with a Polish sales agent named Laura (Anna-Maria Sieklucka). During Laura’s birthday trip to Sicily, Massimo kidnaps her and gives her 365 days to fall in love with him. Obviously, romantic drama ensues paired with an abundance of sexy scenes. Admittedly, the plotline is quite problematic and the acting is certainly not Oscar-worthy, as confirmed by its zero percent rating on the popular review site Rotten Tomatoes. But if you’re into, say, an early 2010’s Wattpad fanfiction vibe, maybe give it a shot.

No matter how real those now-infamous softcore sex scenes look, the cinematographer of the film, Bartek Cierlica, told Variety that it’s all just a product of great camera angles and movie magic. After speaking with directors Barbara Białowąs and Tomasz Mandes on how the film should be done, Cierlica said, “We didn’t want to create porn, but at the same time, we wanted to do justice to the book that is pretty full of very intimate and passionate sex descriptions.”
