Sustainability is the invisible element we just can’t ignore in emerging brand Collina Strada’s NYFW runway show. Held in the Brooklyn Greenway the brand exhibits the bright, carefree exuberance of youth through its signature neon colors and funky patterns. The show is an ode to an optimistic and more sustainable fashion world. Collina Strada takes Y2K high-fashion the right step forward proving that just because an aesthetic can come back into style doesn't mean that fashion brands have to repeat producing the fashion waste of the past.

The garden runway show takes the concept of sustainable fashion into practice. Dresses are constructed from organic, degradable orange fibers and rose derived sylk, and denim and acrylic scraps are reborn as ethereal knitwear. Rebirth is a central theme of Collina Strada’s show, pulling inspiration from the monarch butterfly; the show is an ode to the milkweed, the plant that sustains the recently declared endangered butterfly making the Brooklyn-based butterfly preserve the perfect location for the show. It is difficult to select a favorite look, the models are styled and layed in a way that make the clothing feel wearable but still envy-worthy.

The footwear is a collaboration between Collina Strada and Viroìn, a Paris based fashion brand committed to producing earth-friendly footwear. The two brands have collaborated and combined Collina’s bright femine colors with the harder punk rock industrial look found in Viroìn’s coveted combat boots. Made from appleskin and recycled rubber the pastel loafers and boots are made from one hundred precent recycled and biodegradable elements.

The show served punk-garden fairy realness, delicate-looking fabrics paired with street-style elements like distressed jeans are exactly what's on the menu and prove that we in the world of fashion can do more for the fabulous planet that inspires us.
