Life House Little Havana is a quiet getaway of cultural exploration

There’s something comforting about visiting a place where your ancestral roots thrive. V found a little piece of home away from home tucked away in a quiet neighborhood of Miami. Life House Little Havana, a boutique hotel gem exemplifies all of the cultural charms of Cuban and Latin American heritage with an innovative flair.

The terracotta-colored building exudes the 1920s of Mission Revival style architecture, and upon entry, its decor expresses the culmination of Latin American vintage design with its intricate tiles, worldly knick-knacks, and earthy of dark wood accents, contrasted by tropical pops of color and palms.

Where Life House’s innovation stands out, is its ability to self-check-in. An easy-to-use kiosk makes for a seamless arrival and room key distribution. Comprised of 33 rooms, each is assembled with charm no matter the size, even its bunk bed suite. Though small in size, its comfort, and modern and minimalist design make for the perfect co-sharing space for friends and colleagues. For each room, you can find a plethora of Le Labo bathing products and sweet and savory snacks, including a Latin favorite, a healthier version of mariquitas–a fried plantain chip.

Its Latin-American roots extend to the staff, most locals, that are happy to provide insight on all of the neighborhood’s best offerings– where to get the best café con leche and Cuban sandwiches in town, to eclectic neighborhood shops. If Spanish is your first language, communication is an easy transition.

Once settled, head up to the palm-tree-filled rooftop lounge and restaurant, Terras, and indulge in Latin-street food favorites. The perfect pair? AY MAMEY!– a coconut and mamey rum cocktail, and Ropa Vieja “Birria” Tacos, a modern twist to the traditional Cuban shredded beef dish.
