Thom Browne Is Living His Fantasy With Spring-Summer 2023 Collection

Thom Browne brought coordinated chaos and cartoon glamour to the runway this season.

Thom Browne brought a colorful display of chic maximalism for his spring-summer 2023 collection. The collection combined a variety of time periods, aesthetics, and silhouettes all with pop-art color schemes and over-the-top accessorizing.

The show debuted with Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie walking down the runway in a robe-gown that seemed to fuse medieval European with East Asian aesthetics. Underneath the robe-gown was a red ruffle body suit covering her neck to feet that perfectly contrasted the navy blue outerwear.

Following the opening look was a drastically different aesthetic that was full of bright pastels, polka dots, poodle skirts, and even punk court jester looks.

One of those punk court jester looks was actually modeled by Bella Hadid; the cartoonish yet also chic and sexy look consisted of leg warmers, the same red ruffle body suit as Gwendoline Christie, a mini skirt with exposed underwear, cropped graphic suit jacket, oversized and cropped blazer, and fierce spiked hair.

MJ Rodriguez of POSE was also seen strutting down the runway; however, not in punk court jester couture. Rodriguez actually modeled two looks at the show, one of them a baroque gown and the other a deconstructed shirt, tie, and pants with exposed tidy whities and a veil over her face.

The collection of looks debuted by Thom Browne was something only Browne could pull off. The looks were refreshingly playful while simultaneously chic and high fashion. They brought the cartoony and campy while staying refined and elevated.

In fact, it was something only Browne could pull off because the inspiration for the collection was the story of Thoe Browne’s world. In Thom Browne’s storybook world, “all girls and all boys fit inside the shoe,” everyone is in polka dots, and everyone leaves his fantasy being the truest version of themselves.

V hope we leave as one of the punk courts jesters of Thom Browne’s storybook kingdom.
