Tia Adeola’s FW23 Celebrates Women and their Femininity
An Ode to the Black Renaissance
After a captivating Resort collection shown in her hometown for Lagos Fashion Week, Tia Adeola returns to New York for a stunning Fall 2023 show that further demonstrates what she does best—sexy sheer ruffles and ethereal silhouettes.
The show began with a graceful tune by Opera singer Rebecca Hargrove as she glided down the runway in a black ruffle dress, accompanied by latex gloves. Consisting of an elegant color palette of pearly whites, dusky blacks, golden yellows, and beautiful baby blues. Silhouettes range from long frilly dresses that float just above the ground to micro mini-dresses that are just enough sexiness and not too revealing. With her Fall 2023 collection, Adeola dips her toe into menswear with several top and pants ensembles, all varying in playful textures and rigid shapes.
For glam, it was all about micro-thin brows and dark-lined lips. Jewelry was minimal and simple, while the hairdos were an ode to the Black girls of the 90s.
Adeola’s work usually makes a clear nod to the Black Renaissance, hoping to encourage and motivate young Black girls with her elegant designs. She continues to drive her storytelling narrative through her clothes, filtering out the criticism she has gotten in the past.
“Being an artist at heart can occasionally be a negative thing in a complicated industry. One thing I’ve mastered the art of as I grow as a fashion designer is being a student and a learner,” the young designer states.
If there’s one thing the New York-based designer has a strong opinion on, it’s the idea of allowing women to display their sexuality and power in whatever way they choose to – even if it includes nudity. Adeola continuously succeeds in not only presenting mesmerizing, skin-flaunting designs but empowering women through her lace and ruffles.
