Tierra Whack Was The Main Attraction at The Marc Jacobs Block Party

Marc Jacobs shuts down the streets of NYC with a star-studded block party topped off with a performance by Tierra Whack.

Tierra Whack announced her arrival, politely demanding for us to take notice, just over a year ago when she released her debut album “Whack World”. Reviving a genre of rap that seemed on the verge of indefinite extinction, Whack delivered an ode to classic hip-hop with a new-age nuance. Her intellectually dense vernacular coupled with hard-hitting bars were furthermore enhanced with a 90’s Missy Elliot-reminiscent visual. A rare breed indeed, Whack proved the only thing “whack” about her, was her last name. And the same can be said for her performance at The Marc Jacobs block party.

Thursday evening, Marc Jacobs shut down the streets of Soho to commemorate the launch of his Greene street pop-up. This one wasn’t your average neighborly get-together; it was over-the-top in every sense of the word. The star-studded, pride-friendly soirée featured voguers, Cardboard Cutouts, and Marc Jacobs himself. Surprisingly not nursing a celebratory glass of champagne, the designer was actually spotted behind the cash registers; it’s his party and he’ll check you out if he wants to.

Staying true to the event’s extra-ness, MJ commissioned music’s boldest and brightest stars to perform live. Chief among the performers was none other than Tierra Whack herself. Sporting a playful Marc Jacobs get-up, Whack hit the stage to serve up a high energy and high tempo performance.
