After receiving 4 Academy Awards and making Oscars history, Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite will be adapted into a HBO miniseries with reports of Tilda Swinton as the female lead.

Swinton acted in several of Bong Joon-Ho’s films in the past decade, including Snowpiercer and Okja. The actor/director duo will once again reunite for this upcoming series, alongside Succession’s Adam Mckay in an executive production role. Rumors have also surfaced that actor Mark Ruffalo will star in this upcoming Parasite project as the male lead.

Bong Joon-Ho commented about the early production stages of the miniseries, and his intent to expand on the plot of his motion picture, not remake it. However, many Parasite fans are baffled by this whitewashing attempt of the foreign language film. “But I’d really like to live in a world post #Oscars win where there wasn’t an Americanized white washed remake series on HBO and people would just watch #Parasite instead, giving it the love and support it deserves,” one Twitter  user stated.

The lingering curiosity about the Parasite adaptation remains as official statements and release dates of this HBO series are yet to be announced.
