Room by room ‘The Song’ begins to play. And as Tod’s Spring/Summer 2021 presentation starts, soft instruments begin to accentuate the harmony of an unknown voice, the melody building up, the collection slowly revealed. The simplicity of each song gives character to each of the pieces…

In the presentation, models pose in their literal rooms and virtual ones, as the camera zooms in on details — before the “webcam” switches to the next looks. Giving the grand tour of Villa Necchi and the full collection, in Tod’s words, this project is about, “Bringing the casual and outdoorsy nonchalance of a collection that captures the spirit of an ideal grand tour through easy shapes and washed worn-out textures.” 

Tod’s Creative Director, Walter Chiapponi is known for eccentric, spontaneous, and personal collections. Those three elements are noticeably present this year. The accessories and handmade elements of this collection speaking to the detailed craftsmanship of the luxury brand. Imaginative and joyful, the Gommino sandals are embellished with studs and ankle laces, while a sense of illusion is felt by wearing the high cork platform wedges. The archive T Timeless manifests itself on beautifully colored loafers and bags. Leather is used for the soft deconstructed bags and the bucket bags are made of calf.

Other prominent fabrics included washed suede, and canvas, which were constructed into safari jackets for the womenswear. Patchwork leather blousons, pleated trousers, longer shirts, and liquid duster jackets grace the rest of the collection. In the finale, we discover the beautiful vocals belong to the singer Okay Kaya. Watch ‘The Song’ below.
