After dropping out of New York Fashion Week in February due to Covid-related issues, Tom Ford finally released their Autumn/ Winter 2022 collection, via a digital lookbook, right in the middle of Paris Fashion Week.

It was worth the wait for this collection, which matches the opulent, over-the-top glamour that we’ve been seeing in Paris and Milan. Velvet, feathers, faux-fur, and satin, all in rich jewel tones, make this collection well-poised for the return of true glitz and glam as we emerge from the shadows of lockdown.

Sharply tailored suits are the stars of the men's collection, with most featuring luxurious velvet blazers in colors like turquoise or fuchsia. The collection also features a different kind of suit, a tracksuit, paying homage to Ford’s signature day-to-night style. The women’s collection is marked by a series of oversized tops worn with tights, from pea-coat capes to giant feathered coats. Each look is paired with a sculpted statement heel, designed to match the natural arch of a foot.

Tying the menswear and womenswear looks together is a monochromatic theme, something that’s certainly been a trend on the runway this year. Nearly all of the outfits stick to one shade range, if not one specific color. Looks that go against the grain are mostly neutrals like black or cream, complete with a pop of color via accessories, further enhancing the tonal theme.

Though the Fall 2022 collection shows slightly less skin than usual for Ford, it is steeped in the kind of glossy allure that he perfected while at Gucci in the 90s. This year's collection is decidedly brighter than last year's, which focused on muted earth tones.

While 2021 was all about deconstructed luxury, 2022 is clearly about the return of glam.
