Tom Ford SS20 Beauty: Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fire

Tom Ford’s fashion week beauty looks were all about bringing punk sensibility aboveground, thanks to teased hair and stunning smokey eye.

Tom Ford’s runway at New York Fashion Week brought the sophisticated New York woman back to the depths of the city’s underground. Set in the Bowery subway station, his Spring/Summer 2020 collection featured the likes of Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber, and Adut Akech showcasing bold jewel-tones and punk influences.

Aside from teased-up, distressed hair, Tom Ford’s biggest beauty moment was the alluring smokey eye dusking the models’ faces. Ford achieved the satiny finish with Emotionproof Liner and Mascara along the top and bottom lashes, finished with complementing shades from the Eye Color Quad. A nude, subtly shiny lip finished out the look.

Models also sported a dewy complexion, perhaps thanks to afternoons spent waiting in the muggy subway tunnels. Ford’s Traceless Stick Foundation provided the coverage, and the Skin Illuminating Powder in 01 Moodlight provided the shine. A light brush of Cheek Color in 06 Inhibition added a pop of lively blush—punk isn’t dead, you know.

The men’s looks were comparably more restrained, but founded on the same principles of a dewy glow and light hydration. Ford relied on Hydrating Lip Balm to give the men some pucker, with Brow Definer to provide some alertness. The result? A fresh, focused face to contrast the women’s shadows.
